CHIMAYO, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say about a dozen school children were treated for cuts and bruises after the school bus they were riding in rolled off an embankment on the side of a one-lane road in northern New Mexico.
State police say the driver avoided a head-on collision with a speeding car by driving onto the shoulder of Rio Arriba County Road 80 near Cordova.
They say the bus then rolled down a 25-foot embankment, coming to rest on its side.
State police say some of the 13 elementary school children on the bus were treated at the scene and others were taken to Espanola.
The children ranged in age from 7 to 11.
