ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The state house is expected to vote Thursday on an online prostitution bill inspired largely by a former UNM president.

F. Chris Garcia was charged with promoting prostitution for allegedly playing a key role in Southwest Companions, a website that linked johns and prostitution.

A judge later ruled that under current New Mexico law, a house of prostitution must be a physical place.

Republican representative Tim Lewis’ bill would close that loophole making a website or forum to promote prostitution a felony.
