Lawmaker wants more guns on campuses

SANTA FE (KRQE) - A state lawmaker wants to allow some employees to carry handguns onto school property.

Republican Sen. Sue Wilson Beffort of Sandia Park wants to allow schools to designate one of its workers to bring a concealed handgun onto campus.

Right now only police and some security guards can carry guns on school grounds in New Mexico.

The National Rifle Association has advocated placing armed guards in all schools.
