SANTA FE (KRQE) - A bill to expand the state’s Katie’s Law is moving forward at the roundhouse.

The law is named after New Mexico college student Katie Sepich who was raped and murdered in 2003.

House Bill 256 calls for DNA sample collection for all people arrested for felony crimes in the state of New Mexico.

Current law includes those arrested for certain felonies.

The bill is headed to the House Judiciary Committee.
