ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A house committee tabled two bills Tuesday night that called for repeal of the law that lets illegal immigrants get driver's licenses.
Albuquerque republican Paul Pacheco sponsored Governor Martinez’s measure to end the controversial program.
The other, from Bill Rehm, also an Albuquerque republican, goes even further by invalidating licenses already issued to illegal immigrants.
But the democrat controlled House Labor and Human Resources Committee rejected both five to four on party line votes.
There is talk that Martinez may be willing to compromise on the issue, but so far no bill has been introduced.
