RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - The widow of murdered Sandoval County Sheriff's Deputy Joe Harris is dropping her run for the state legislature.
Tonia Harris said she is giving it up because her 11-year-old daughter Ally asked her to. The Rio Rancho teacher was the Republican nominee for the District 60 House seat.
Suspected serial killer Joseph Burgess shot and killed Sgt. Joe Harris in a cabin on July 16, 2009. Before he died Harris returned fire and killed Burgess. Harris served 20 years as a Rio Rancho police officer before retiring and joining the sheriff's department.
