ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It is a sad New Year's holiday for Governor Susana Martinez.

Her father died just before five o’clock Monday night after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

The governor's office says Jacobo "Jake" Martinez was a three-time golden gloves winner in the 1950's as an amateur boxer, served as a deputy sheriff in El Paso County, Texas, and was a Korean War veteran.

He was 80-years-old.
