Federal lawsuit filed after voting mess

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The voting fiasco in Rio Rancho during the presidential election has led to a federal lawsuit targeting the former Sandoval County clerk and the bureau of elections chief.
The Albuquerque Journal reports the lawsuit alleges voters were deprived of their right to vote after a low number of voting centers led to long lines.
Some voters waited for hours to cast a ballot.
The lawsuit, filed this week, names former Sandoval County Cerk Sally Padilla and Bureau of Elections Chief Eddie Gutierrez.
It contends that the county didn't have enough voting centers in republican-leaning Rio Rancho and that led to three republican candidates losing their races to democrats.
Padilla has said Rio Rancho's big voting mess was not a case of dirty politics.
