SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, Republican Pete Domenici Jr. and other candidates for statewide offices are keeping the secretary of state busy.

Tuesday is filing day.

Candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, Congress and other offices have until the end of the day to turn in the required number of petition signatures if they want to run for office.

Denish turned in a box of more than 10,000 signatures. She says there are 266 days until the general election and she's ready to travel New Mexico to hear from residents.

The race for the Republican nomination for governor is crowded. The field includes Domenici, former state GOP chairman Allen Weh, Dona Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez, state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones of Albuquerque and Albuquerque businessman Doug Turner.
