ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - State lawmakers have approved a proposal backed by Governor Martinez to expand New Mexico’s Amber Alert system.

The house approved the measure Monday to broaden the system to include children abducted by a parent or other family member.

Under the current law an Amber Alert only covers children abducted by strangers.

The bill passed the house on a 61 to two vote and now goes to the senate for consideration.
