AG looks into Election Day voting issues

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Rio rancho's Election Day debacle that resulted in thousands of voters waiting hours in line to vote has officially caught the attention of the Attorney General’s office.

Attorney General Gary King confirmed an investigation in a press release this afternoon, calling the fiasco "a near meltdown of voting procedures” and suggesting the "possibility of voter suppression."

Sandoval County Clerk Sally Padilla has insisted the long lines were not her intention.

She claims the state did not provide her with enough ballot printers even though she asked for them.

The secretary of state's office claims Padilla got all the printers she asked for.

The investigation was launched as a result of numerous complaints from citizens, lawmakers and some of the AG's own staffers who were caught up in last Tuesday’s long lines.
