Albuquerque more hot air balloon friendly

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Friday Mayor R.J. Berry signed an ordinance that allows hot air balloon pilots to launch and land anywhere within Albuquerque city limits.

The legislation was drafted after a local homeowner complained about the balloons landing. It was at that time when the zoning department realized there were no clearly defined parameters for launching or landing a balloon in the city, meaning ballooning was technically illegal everywhere in Albuquerque.

“It's been a large undertaking to get this done. As you may imagine, anytime you make a significant change to the zoning code, it's not easy to do." said Mayor Berry Friday.

While pilots are now legal to land in public places, they can only launch or land on your property with your permission.
