ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The former leader of the Safe City Strike Force has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the top job in Albuquerque.

“I am a candidate for the mayor for the City of Albuquerque,” Pete Dinelli announced his plans to run for Mayor in front of a crowd of supporters outside his home Sunday.

Dinelli is the first person to officially announce his candidacy in the upcoming October mayoral election.

The lifelong Albuquerque resident said he decided to get in the race to bring confidence back to the troubled police department that he says is in a complete meltdown.

Dinelli is an attorney, a former city councilor and public safety director.
