ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - It can be one of the scariest nights of the year, especially if your neighborhood is crawling with real life monsters. KRQE News 13 did some research and found one neighborhood where residents had no idea who was living next door.

Jennifer Bustillos, 12, is going to be a pirate for Halloween. She is excited to go Trick-or-Treating in a neighborhood full of secrets. Her mother had no idea a registered sex offender lives just four doors down from their home. With an elementary school nearby and a park also across the street, her neighborhood near San Mateo and Comanche is loaded with sex offenders.

Robert Thorn who also lives in the area had no idea there were two registered sex offenders living across the street from his home and nine more who've settled into the neighborhood. The offenders' list of convictions range from rape to possession of child pornography. "On Halloween of course it kind of bothers me," said Thron. "I didn't even know."

Authorities are taking extra precautions on Halloween night to make sure everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Multiple agencies in Bernalillo county will launch a special tactical plan going door to door, checking on registered sex offenders. They will make sure offenders are following specific rules. They are not allowed to display decorations or pass out candy.

It's something that comforts the residents we spoke to, especially Thorn who still plans to pass out candy.

To check to see if there are sex offenders living in your neighborhood just enter your zip code on the state's website: nmsexoffender.dps.state.nm.us
