NM may ban cell phones in state vehicles

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The state is considering a total ban on cell phone use in state vehicles.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, drivers of state-owned vehicles can now use a hands-free device to talk while driving.

However, General Services Secretary Ed Burckle says studies show a complete ban on cell phone use while driving would lower the number of accidents.

Representatives from several state agencies say the change would negatively impact employee productivity.

The state can change the rules without approval from the roundhouse.
