(KRQE NEWS 13) - As of 3:25 p.m. - A passenger train crashed into a heavy-duty dump truck in southwestern Spain on Monday, killing two people and injuring eight others, a government official said.

As of 2:19 p.m. - Mexican authorities opened shelters and warned people to watch out for mudslides Monday as Tropical Storm Hermine approached the northeastern border with Texas, the second major storm to hit the area this season.

As of 1:20 p.m. - The northern New Mexico city of Las Vegas has settled with a woman who accused a police officer of attacking and bruising her while she was in custody.

As of 12:12 p.m. - New Mexico broadcasters and the public policy group New Mexico First are planning a series of town hall debates in October that will focus on the candidates vying for seats in New Mexico's three congressional districts.

As of 11:45 a.m. - A judge in the Bahamas dismissed charges Monday against two people accused of trying to extort money from John Travolta after the prosecutor said the actor no longer wanted to pursue a case stemming from the death of his teenage son.

As of 10:42 a.m. - New Mexico State University plans to curtail its periodical and academic journal subscriptions, which worries researchers .

As of 9:54 a.m. - A major property management firm notified its New Mexico tenants in August that they'd have to sign an agreement not to use or grow medical marijuana at home.

As of 9:05 a.m. - Vowing to find new ways to stimulate the sputtering economy, President Barack Obama will call for long-term investments in the nation's roads, railways and airports that would cost at least $50 billion, administration officials said.

As of 9:01 a.m. - Aztec High School is requiring students to wear their school identification badges around their necks while they're at school.rincipal Warman Hall says all the students will have ID badges within the next week or so.

As of 8:54 a.m. - White Sands Missile Range is offering people a chance to turn in ammunition and explosives, no questions asked.

As of 8:14 a.m. - According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Happy Labor Day!

As of 8:08 a.m. - The United States expects to spend about $6 billion a year training and supporting Afghan troops and police after it begins pulling out its own combat troops in 2011, The Associated Press has learned.
