Public-meetings notice bill headed to Martinez

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The New Mexico Legislature has sent Gov. Susana Martinez a bill that would require boards, city councils and other government entities in New Mexico to make their agendas publicly available at least 72 hours before a scheduled meeting.

Currently, governmental entities in New Mexico must currently post agendas at least 24 hours in advance.

The Albuquerque Journal reports (http://bit.ly/ZI05Fo) that a 31-0 vote by the state Senate on Saturday sends the bill to the governor.

Martinez is expected to sign the measure into law.

The Foundation for Open Government says this is the third year the legislation has been proposed.

Supporters say the proposed change will improve governmental transparency.
