DOJ holding forums on Albuquerque police probe

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department will allow Albuquerque residents two more chances to learn about a pending federal probe into Albuquerque police.

Federal officials have scheduled a community meeting Monday at the Barela's Community Center and another one Wednesday at Palo Duro Senior Center.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says the forums are opportunities for residents to learn about the federal investigation into use of force by the Albuquerque Police Department and to allow residents to submit information.

U.S. Justice Department announced in November it was investigating the Albuquerque Police Department after a string of officer-involved shootings and high-profile abuse cases alleging the use of excessive and deadly force.

Jewel Hall, a vocal critic of the department, says she's going to wait and see what comes out of the meetings.
