CHIMAYO, NM - A fire burning in the bosque near Chimayo is threatening homes, according to state fire officials.
It started Sunday evening and has charred two acres near Rio Vista Run and Highway 76. The fire is located between Chimayo and Espanola.
Some residents in the area have been evacuated within two miles of the fire. No shelter information has been released at this point, but residents are being told to head south. Expect congested roadways in that area.
Fire crews are making progress on the Rio Vista Run Fire, but a second fire that started nearby is growing larger and forcing additional evacuations.
The second fire, burning along West Arroyo Alamo Road is burning actively and is crowning in cottonwoods and other bosque fuels and under power lines.
Crews are working to actively suppress both fires.
Santa Fe County Fire is responding and some structures are threatened.
