Kirtland investigating fight video

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A Kirtland Air Force Base Spokesperson confirmed to KRQE News 13 they are investigating a video posted online that shows Airmen involved in a brawl.

A group of young men were gathered in a shopping center parking lot on Osuna near Eubank egging each other on in the middle of the day.

In the video you can see a uniformed airman calling out one of the plain-clothed guys to fight one of his fellow airmen, who is also in uniform.

After a little smack talking the two eventually go at it, the airman gets body slammed not once but twice, the second time he comes down hard on his head.

His opponent though was not done, landing a few punches as some members the crowd tried to break things up.

Kirtland Spokesperson Marie Vanover declined an on-camera interview saying they do not discuss on-going investigations.

She did tell KRQE News 13 over the phone that the video was brought to their attention last week but they believe it was shot sometime before last October- saying Kirtland airmen stopped wearing those types of boots last fall.

The video was posted on a hip-hop website six days ago and the comments have been pouring in since.

In all we counted five guys in uniform, including one with three stripes, a senior airman.

Kirtland is investigating to see if some of those guys in plain clothes are also airmen.

Vanover said “obviously the Air Force does not condone this type of behavior.”

She refused though to speculate on what kind of punishments the airmen face, sighting the on-going investigation, which could take anywhere from 30 days to a year.

For now, Vanover said the airmen are on their regular duty.
