SANTA FE (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez has ordered flags flown at half-staff across New Mexico from sunrise until sundown honor of the state's latest fallen soldier.
The order slated for Friday is in honor of Staff Sgt. Israel Nuanes of the U.S. Army.
The Silver City-born Nuanes, who lived in Las Cruces, was killed in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan earlier this month by an enemy attack with an explosive device. He was assigned to the 741st Ordinance Company at Fort Bliss.
He was the recipient of Bronze Star Medal.
Nuanes is survived by his two children.
