ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Lumpy's Burgers which has gained a cult like following since opening on Central Avenue in early 2010 is now expanding to Albuquerque's westside.

Owners, Jason Mancini and his brother-in-law Jay Kennedy plan to open their new location in mid November on 7 bar loop, in the Albertson's shopping center. There will be a job fair on Tuesday from 9am to 12pm and Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm at the new location to hire 25 part time workers.

The first Lumpy's burgers was opened on Central Avenue in February of 2010 and is flourishing. The restaurant has a unique ordering system, with customers filling out their own orders on a brown paper bag and choosing their own potato and fry cut. It's been a big hit with customers.

Mancini and Kennedy say they originally planned to open a gas station at the Central address but when they couldn't get financing, they went to plan b, opening a restaurant. For two guys with no restaurant experience it was a risk.

"Neither of us are chefs, so the only thing we could cook was burgers." says Kennedy "We thought if we can make a burger that tastes good to me, maybe it will taste good to other people"

The two have been pleasantly surprised to find Lumpy's has a cult like following. They've now developed Lumpy's gear for fans and hope their success will follow them to their new location on Albuquerque's westside because these two guys have a lot at stake.

"Between us we have 11 kids. " says Mancini "We have mouths to feed too so I think it's a huge risk, but that is part of being an entrepreneur in america, taking that risk."

People interested in applying for positions at the new Lumpy's location can show up during the job fair. Mancini and Kennedy say they're looking for people with a smile.
