Locksley's no stranger to trouble

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Mike Locksley has been no stranger to controversy during his two plus years as UNM Head Football Coach. Locksley has been slammed with allegations of sexual harassment, age discrimination, assault, battery and intimidation.

Early at the start of his career a long-time football program assistant, Sylvia Lopez, filed complaints with the Equal Opportunity Commission against Locksley for sexual harassment and age discrimination.

Locksley was eventually cleared of those charges but soon after he found himself in yet another ugly altercation.

In September of 2009 former Assistant Coach J.B. Gerald accused Locksley of attacking him during a coaches meeting.

According to a police report Locksley grabbed Gerald by the collar and punched him n the face.

Despite a photo of Gerald’s swollen, cut lip being released to the media Locksley maintained that he never punched Gerald.

In an interview with ESPN Locksley said that he grabbed Gerald around his collar, but did not punch his assistant coach.

The incident resulted in a 10-day suspension and criticism that the University mishandled the investigation.

Last year a staff writer at the Daily Lobo, UNM’ campus newspaper, claimed Locksley tried to intimidate him at an Albuquerque restaurant.

A surveillance video of the incident was released to the UNM Athletic Department who viewed the video with then Albuquerque Journal reporter Greg Archuleta. The group determined that there was “nothing to the dialogue, and there as no story or wrongdoing on the part of Coach Locksley or the Lobo reporter.”

No other media outlets were allowed to view the videotape.

Archuleta was recently hired as the Athletic Departments assistant director of communications.

On Saturday a group of drunk teens were caught by APD riding around in car registered to Locksley. University officials say the car belonged to Locksley’s son who allowed Joshua Butts, 19, to drive it.

These allegations combined with Locksley’s dismal 2-26 record have had Lobo fans howling for his dismissal long before Sunday’s announcement.
