CHAPARRAL, N.M. (AP) - A toddler and two other people are dead following a fire inside a mobile home in southern New Mexico.
Volunteer firefighters arrived at the Chaparral home before midnight Wednesday. The three victims were found in a back bedroom of the home.
Authorities say bars on the windows and intense flames and smoke in the hallway prevented their escape and kept firefighters from rescuing them.
The victims are believed to have been a 20-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy and a 14-month-old girl. Identifications are being withheld until the Office of the Medical Investigator can positively identify the bodies and relatives can be notified.
A man living on the opposite end of the mobile home was able to escape without injuries.
Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
