LAS CRUCES (AP) - Doña Ana County authorities are not expected to file charges in the deaths of two children who drowned last weekend in Vado.
Sheriff's office investigator Bo Nevarez said findings were presented Wednesday morning concerning the drownings of 5-year-old Michelle Marmolejo and 3-year-old Brandon Marmolejo.
Nevarez said the district attorney, based on the information presented by investigators, will not be pursuing criminal charges against the parents.
Investigators labeled the deaths a tragic accident and could not find criminal intent.
The Office of the Medical Investigator's preliminary findings indicated that the cause of death was a result of "drowning."
Nevarez said unless other findings are presented, the case is considered closed by the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department.
