LAS CRICES (AP) - The former director of New Mexico's Spaceport America has landed a job directing an economic development organization in Florida.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports ( http://bit.ly/yrBqMO ) that Rick Homans landed the job as CEO and President of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. on Friday. The organization cited Homans' work with the spaceport and other New Mexico economic development projects and his experience as a state cabinet secretary as reasons for the hire.
Gov. Susana Martinez forced Homans to resign from his spaceport job soon after she took office in early 2011. He previously was secretary the New Mexico Economic Development Department and state Taxation and Revenue Department under the Gov. Bill Richardson administration.
Spaceport America is being built in Dona Ana County as a launch site for commercial space vehicles.
