LAS CRUCES (KRQE) - It turns out a swarm of bees that attacked a tree removal crew this summer in Las Cruces were Africanized.

According to the Las Cruces Sun New, a New Mexico State University bee expert says tests confirm the insects were not typical honeybees.

The bees attacked the crew in mid-July workers were removing a dead cottonwood tree at the historic Alameda House.

Two workers were hospitalized.
