ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) - A turtle from New Mexico had quite an adventure recently.

The African spurred tortoise had escaped from its Alamogordo home and a week and a half later was spotted crossing the road at Cree Meadows golf course in Ruidoso.

Animal control picked up the 35-pound tortoise and after calling the Alamogordo zoo found out someone had reported missing the turtle.

The owner and reptile were reunited.

It's still unclear exactly how the 8-year-old tortoise made the 50 mile trek.
