Eddy Co. non-emergency numbers down

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE-KBIM) - A phone outage affecting four states has knocked out non-emergency county services in Eddy County in southeastern New Mexico.

Eddy County Central Communications Authority Director Jenny Rennie said residents who need to reach non-emergency services should call (575) 885-6594.

The county's 9-1-1 system is not affected by the outage.

Rennie said ZiaNet, which provides the county's voice-over-Internet-Protocol services, is suffering an outage across four states. VOIP is a phone system that uses Internet technology to cut costs.
