Skier killed in Colorado avalanche

DURANGO, CO (KRQE) - A former Durango resident was killed in an avalanche in Colorado this weekend.

Joseph Philpott, 26, who was attending Colorado State University and living in Fort Collins, was skiing on backcountry terrain with a friend when the two were caught in the slide Saturday.
    
Philpott's friend was buried for three-hours and taken to the hospital.
