GRANTS, N.M. (KRQE) - Shortly before midnight Tuesday 911 emergency lines were restored to operation in Cibola, McKinley and Catron counties, according to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.
The emergency phones had been out of operation since early afternoon when a truck snagged and broke an above-ground fiber-optic cable near Gallup.
During that time DPS provided alternate phone numbers for reaching emergency services.
The problem also affected mobile phones, long distance service and some Internet access in the area.
