FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) - Kim and Krickitt Carpenter have watched their story play out dozens of times on the small screen. Now the couple’s tale of hope, perseverance and commitment to their wedding vows is set to hit the Silver Screen.

“It is exciting that it’s finally coming along,” Krickitt Carpenter said.

The movie has been 14 years in the making. The Carpenter’s signed a movie deal about their lives right around the time they got married for the second time.

“It’s about hope, it’s about perseverance, it’s about commitment, it’s about being a person of your word and doing what you say you were doing to do. It’s a love story,” Kim said.

Their love story started in 1992 when the two met over the phone while discussing a business deal. A few months later they met in person and Kim proposed shortly thereafter. They married in the fall of 1993.

“You have to take those words seriously that you’re making a promise before God, and the bad can come and the sickness can come, granted we didn’t think it would come ten weeks after we got married,” Krickitt said.

But it did. The two were in a bad car accident on I-40 while traveling to Phoenix for Thanksgiving. When Krickitt woke up from her coma, she had no recollection of Kim. She was suffering from amnesia and could not remember the last 18 months of her life before the accident.

“It was a very difficult process to go through,” Kim said.

After Krickitt was released from the hospital Kim’s therapist suggested the two start over, so they began dating again.

“I figured I liked him before, so I'll get to know him again and you know, it was one day at a time,” Krickitt said.

In 1996, three years after their first wedding, the two married again. Since then they’ve written a book, been on dozens of TV Shows, had two kids, settled down in Farmington and inspired people all over the globe with their story.

To this day though, Krickitt has not regained her memory of those 18 months before the accident and another four months after the crash.

“Now even the little traumatizing things, there not near as impacted on our life, knowing what we've been through,” Kim said.

Their amazing story is now being made into a feature film called “The Vow” starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, filming is set to begin in August, with a 2012 release date.

It’s a Hollywood ending the Carpenter’s said they never could have even imagined 17 years ago when their lives were changed forever.
