FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) - An emotional reunion took place in Farmington as the family of a little girl who nearly died last month finally got to meet the Farmington Police Officer who saved her life.
Seven-year-old Eloisa Lucero from Dulce was on pain medication after a trip to San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Room on July 23 to have her broken arm set.
Eloisa’s mom, Cristy Lucero said she was given the OK to feed Eloisa, but that proved a near fatal mistake. After eating Eloisa passed out and started vomiting in the car.
“I picked her head up, she was already turning blue, and I grabbed her and I said Eloisa are you Okay, and she just slumped over,” Cristy Lucero said.
Lucero said they were racing back to the hospital when they came across Officer Jared Stock.
“A suburban pulled up next to me with a woman basically hanging out the window yelling, help, help me, she’s not breathing,” Officer Stock said.
Stock jumped into action. His attempts to save Eloisa were caught on his dash-camera.
“I began the Heimlich maneuver to try and free her airway,” Stock said.
Eventually Eloisa regained consciousness.
“He’s our angel, he saved my baby,” Lucero said.
Eloisa was taken to the hospital where her mom said she nearly lost consciousness again, eventually she was given the clear to go back home to Dulce.
“After everything happened she asked me, why was that man squeezing me so hard, and I told her, I said, he was saving your life,” Lucero said.
From that day on Eloisa was desperate to meet that man, on Saturday she got her chance.
“I won’t squeeze you this time OK” Officer Stock told Eloisa during their meeting.
Once they got reacquainted Lucero presented Officer Stock with a gift, a blanket with the families tribe, Jicarilla Apache, logo embroidered in it.
“I’m so glad you were there for her,” Lucero told Stock.
Stock said he was just doing his job, but said it’s moments like this one that remind him why he wanted to be a police officer to begin with.
“We deal with bad every day, sometimes you get frustrated. When things like this happen and families like the Lucero's come in, and just give you affirmation that this is why I do the job,” Stock said.
