FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE-KREZ) - A young girl who was hospitalized in critical condition following a house fire Tuesday died Wednesday afternoon, according to Farmington police spokesperson Sgt. Dale Goodwin.
The girl, whose name has not been released, was removed from life support at an Albuquerque hospital around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. She died soon afterwards.
Paul Smith, 29, and April Lobato, 33, died on the scene of the fire.
Farmington Fire Department Battalion Chief Nick Mrzlak said investigators believe the blaze likely was due to an overloaded circuit and a light-duty extension cord that handled multiple plugs in a bedroom.
He said no smoke detectors were found in the debris.
