FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Big changes are coming to the Four Corners Monument as crews turn it into a more tourist friendly place.
Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation parks manager Martin Begaye said blueprints call for a $2.4 million renovation of the monument,
which is expected to include an interpretation center, indoor plumbing and other upgrades.
Construction crews demolished the old Four Corners monument Feb.1.
They dragged the heavy granite marker offsite and in its place is a giant dirt bowl.
Begaye said visitors will still be able to see the location where the four states meet and they can still stand on that marker.
Stairs and ramps will lead into the bowl allowing visitors who wish to stand on the marker easy access.
