AZTEC, N.M. (AP) - Aztec police say a boy has died after being struck by a truck.
Sgt. Joe Gonzalez tells The Farmington Daily-Times 2-year-old Alex Chabot ran into a road near the intersection of Main and Chuska streets Tuesday when he was hit by a semi-trailer heading north.
Gonzalez says the toddler was later pronounced dead at San Juan Regional Medical center.
Police do not plan to cite the driver. They say alcohol and speeding do not appear to factor into the accident. According to witnesses, the driver was going about 5 to 10 miles below the posted speed limit of 25 mph.
Gonzalez says the boy was with his mother and step-father at a nearby business when he ran across the sidewalk and under the semi-trailer.
