SANTA ROSA, N.M. (AP) - Authorities have reopened Interstate 40 at Santa Rosa after officials cleared a pileup that involved at least four tractor-trailers.
State highway officials say the roadway was a sheet of ice early Tuesday.
Motorists in eastern New Mexico were discouraged from travel on I-40 from the Guadalupe County line to Tucumcari because of icy roads and extremely foggy conditions that reduced visibility to one-tenth of a mile in the Newkirk area.
Difficult driving conditions also were reported on Interstate 25 from Glorieta toward Las Vegas, N.M., and north to Watrous.
Crews were out early plowing, salting and sanding the roads.
