FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - San Juan County authorities say two men were injured when the truck they were traveling in took a 200-foot plunge off a cliff into a river bank.
The Farmington Daily Times reports that the truck's passenger, 35-year-old Jared Jacquez, was in critical condition, while the driver, 22-year-old Timothy Maes, was listed in serious condition after the truck went off the cliff near NM 173 and NM 511.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Beth Utley says Maes told deputies that he was driving Jacquez to medics in order to get help for him at the time, though it's unclear what was wrong with Jacquez.
Maes tells investigations that he looked down for a moment and then crashed.
Authorities are investigating the crash.
