Cars are reported to be stranded in 2 1/2 feet of running water at the intersection of Candelaria and Juan Tabo NE as a nearly stationary storm pounds the Albuquerque Heights and Tijeras Canyon.

The National Weather Service is reporting nearly 2 inches of rain has fallen near the intersection and in the canyon near Carnuel with 1-2 inches more possible.

A flash-flood warning is in effect through 7:45 p.m. affecting eastern portions of metro Albuquerque, Carnuel, Sandia Heights and Cedar Crest.

Heavy rain also was falling at the KRQE-TV studios in downtown Albuquerque, and numerous weather advisories and warnings have been issued elsewhere in the state.

A flood advisory also has been issued for parts of Sandoval, Los Alamos and Santa Fe counties related to strong thunderstorms near and north of La Bajada south of Santa Fe.  And an advisory is in effect through 8:45 p.m. for an area extending from the east slopes of the Sandia Mountains through northern Torrance County and southeastern Santa Fe County extending into San Miguel County.
