ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - While the UNM Lobo football team continues to take hits on the field, the Athletic Department is losing big money.
Through four home games this season, the department has taken in just over $1 million in ticket sales. In 2009, the Lobo’s ticket sales through four games was over $1.2 million. In 2008, the sales through four games was over $1.5 million.
With current projections, the Lobos Football revenue will wind up approximately $600,000 below projections made before the season. That projected loss comes even after the Athletic Department lowered its revenue projections for this season by $400,000 from 2009.
In 2009, the Lobo football team took a $700,000 revenue loss.
UNM’s average attendance this season through four games is about 22,000. Last Saturday’s game announced attendance was around 16,000 people.
