Wreck kills three, injures three more

Alcohol may be a factor in the crash

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A head-on collision near Interstate 40 and Rio Puerco on the frontage road left three people dead and three others injured on Sunday.

Two cars were involved in the wreck, according to Deputy Lawrence Koren from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office.

Koren said a Ford Fusion driven by Alrejean Charley crossed into the wrong lane and collided with Bernadette Chavez's Honda Accord.

Charley and her brother Sparky Charley died in the vehicle.

Another passenger, Bryan Sandoval, suffered a broken leg and two broken ankles.

In Chavez's vehicle, her father Remijio Baca died and her daughter Jessica Chavez suffered two broken legs.

Koren said there were several open beer cans inside of Charley's car.

Chavez showed no signs of alcohol or impairment.

Interstate 40 was no affected by the wreck, but the frontage road was closed while police investigated.
