ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - United Way of Central New Mexico surpassed its fundraising goal for last year.

The agency says it received $28.2 million in pledges, nearly a 4 percent increase over previous years.

Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry says it was enough for him to brag about to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"When I reminded him on a per capita basis New Mexico blows them away for United Way, he didn't have a lot to say about that," Berry says.

The fund drive covered Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties.
