1912 - New Mexico becomes the 47th state . Our population was around: 327,300.
1916 - Pancho Villa raids Columbus, New Mexico .
1920 - New Mexico's Legislature ratifies the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote.
1926 - Route 66 comes to New Mexico.
1940's - WWII brings massive influx of people and dollars and changes the state forever.
1943 - Top-secret Los Alamos Research Center built for the Manhattan Project .
July 16, 1945 - Los Alamos scientists explode first atomic bomb in historic Trinity test.
1947 - Some claim aliens land near Roswell .
1948 - Native Americans win the right to vote in state elections
1972 - The first Balloon Fiesta takes flight from Coronado Mall.
1980 - The New Mexico Penitentiary Riot spreads over two days as deadliest prison riot in U.S. history.
2007 - Spaceport America breaks ground. Flights are expected to begin in 2013.
2011 - Governor Susana Martinez takes office as the state's 31st governor and the first woman elected to the post.
