ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A New Mexico State Police sergeant who complained about a lack of diversity among leaders of the agency and Department of Public Safety has claimed in a lawsuit that he was retaliated against.

The Albuquerque Journal reports Henry Trujillo filed a lawsuit against the DPS in Santa Fe last week alleging it violated laws against racial and age discrimination and retaliated against him.

The lawsuit suit says Trujillo and a classmate in a graduate program prepared a January 2010 report asserting State Police leadership was concentrated among Anglos.

The lawsuit says officials then attempted to have Trujillo fired.

A State Police spokesman declined to comment on the lawsuit.
