Razor blade found in candy

SANTA FE, NM (KRQE) - Sometimes a parent's worst nightmare really does come true.

Someone really did put a razor blade in a child's Halloween candy in Santa Fe Halloween night. 

"There was a little slit on that side right here. It was a minimal slit. If he had opened it from the front or the other side he would have never really seen it," said John Martinez.

He found a razor in Reese's peanut butter cup while inspecting his 15 year-old son's Halloween candy. The boy and his friends trick-or-treated near Ragle Park.

"There's a high probability this is not the only tainted chocolate," said Lt. Louis Carlos with the Santa Fe Police Department.

But police aren't sure which house the teen got the tainted candy from. They are warning kids who trick or treated within two miles of Ragle Park to be extra vigilant and make sure to check their candy.

The blade is from a disposable razor which police say makes it even more dangerous.

"We don't know if its new. We don't know if its used or where its been so we need to take universal precaution," Lt. Carlos said.

"I'm glad he didn't eat it. First thing I said was call your friends, call the police and see what we're supposed to do," Martinez said.

Police are looking for anyone else who's candy was tampered with to call them.
They are also investigating whether this was a prank but they don't believe it was.

Police aren't sending the razor to the evidence lab because they say its passed through too many hands to try and isolate the suspect's fingerprints from it.
