UNM Forum to focus on campus safety

Highlighting safety measures available on campus

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - UNM officials will be holding a public input forum on Friday to educate students about safety on campus in light of recent attacks on women.  The meeting will be held in the atrium of the Student Union Building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The goal of the forum is to make students more aware and involved in looking out for ways to prevent being a victim of such attacks. They also want to make them aware of what resources are available to help them avoid getting into bad situations.

Some of those include utilizing the campus security escort services to walk students from classes to their cars or dorms late at night. Since UNM Police heard about the attacks, they've beefed up their team by hiring private security guards to patrol campus.

"I know that campus police wants to make us feel safe as possible," says UNM student Courtney Barnes. "But at the same time it's just such a huge campus and not everyone can be protected."

If you have any information that UNM Police can use in their investigation, you can call them at 277-2241 or e-mail them at policetips@unm.edu

Police have also set up a web page to educate students on the attacks, that can be found at campussafety.unm.edu
