ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - It is a photo that is raising some eyebrows. The Newly crowned Miss New Mexico USA in fishnet stockings, high heels and nothing else.
Crowned in January Kathleen or Katie Danzer is already fulfilling her roles as an ambassador for the state.
However, a photo of Danzer that shows her nearly nude, is sparking some debate over what is appropriate and what is not appropriate for a beauty queen.
"For representing the state of New Mexico uh perhaps might be stretching it a bit," said Dennis Garber.
The photo was taken before Danzer won her crown.
"I think its risque I do, um do I have a problem with it? No, I do not," said Kimberly Summers.
All Miss USA contestants are required to sign a contract in which they agree that they've conducted themselves in the highest moral and ethical standards and that being photographed in a "state of partial or total nudity or in a lewd, compromising or sexually suggestive manner constitutes a violation of the provision."
Some of the people News 13 spoke with said these kinds of photos are to be expected in the pageant world.
"I do think that a lot of girls who have come up in this kind of pageant industry have done a lot of modeling and some somewhat risque photos are out there," said Tiffany Hill.
The Miss USA Organization did not seem to have a problem with the photo telling KRQE News 13, "They have seen similar photos from what looks like the same photo shoot of Miss New Mexico USA. after review she was cleared to compete."
It is a decision some New Mexicans KRQE News 13 spoke with support.
"It's done in taste and its a professional photograph its doesn't look pornographic to me," Summers said.
News 13 asked the Miss USA Organization specifically whether the photo we have was approved, they did not get back to us.
Danzer also did not return calls for comment, she is scheduled to compete in the Miss USA Pageant in Vegas this June.
