ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A woman is dead after the SUV she was riding in collided with an Albuquerque police officers' unit.
Bernalillo County sheriff's detectives are investigating the crash that happened just after 1 o’clock Sunday morning at the intersection of Paseo Del Norte and Eagle Ranch Road.
They say that the APD unit was heading westbound on Paseo Del Norte when it hit the passenger side of a Honda CRV that was going northbound on Eagle Ranch Road.
The driver of the Honda, Lindsey Browder, 19, was taken to the hospital and has a broken hip and a fractured spine. Her sister and passenger, Ashley Browder, 21, was killed due to injuries sustained in the crash
Deputies say the officer was driving with his lights and sirens on, looking for a drunk driver.
No word if the other driver ran a red light or who is believe to be at fault.
Traffic was blocked off at the intersection while officers investigated the site of the fatal crash.
At this time APD has not released the officer’s name.
Police say while they were investigating the accident, a drunk driver slammed into one of their patrol cars.
That driver ended up in jail.
