Man drowns in irrigation canal

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The fire department said a man who was using an Albuquerque irrigation canal as a bathroom fell in and drowned early Friday morning.

The incident happened near 47th and Central at 3:45 a.m.

Firefighters recovered the unnamed man's body two miles away near Foothill and Sunset Gardens.

A friend who jumped in after him was able to get out safely.
