RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - Rio Rancho police and firefighters teamed up Saturday for the "Guns and Hoses' holiday event to give back to the community.
This is the second year for the event and this year participants honored slain Sandoval County Deputy Joe Harris.
Among the activities was a community blood drive.
However, the turnout wasn't what organizers had hoped for.
"We would love if people would step it up. We had a much smaller turnout than we did last year," business owner Jeanette Denison said. "However our economy is much worse than it was last year."
The Blue Star Mothers were on site collecting nonperishable food items for troops overseas.
Denison said that the troops and families suffering in this rough economy need your support in the form blood, money or other donations this holiday season.
